COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Here at Andes Dream Travel we believe that Responsible Tourism doesn’t just mean respecting the places and cultures that we visit, but it means giving something back to these communities. Therefore the company has plans to build a school for those disadvantaged children that do not have the educational opportunities that other children may. Children continue to be the most vulnerable and unprotected citizens in Peru. Of the 3.8 million people living in extreme poverty, 2.1 million are children. Of the total 10.2 million under-18 population, more than 6.5 million live below the poverty line. (source Unicef) Added to this, the learning levels of the children in the shanty town areas of Cusco is deficient, due to the lack of care and involvement by the parents in their children’s education. Almost 90 percent of parents in these areas did not graduate from school. (source World Vision) The idea to build the school is the dream of owner Manuel who himself experienced the struggle of growing up in poverty and having to finance his own education.

He was helped along his path by many people and he wants to give the same opportunity to those children in Cusco today who face the same problems that he encountered.
