CITY TOUR
IN THE MORNING
We Visit:
From 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
(The temple of the sun, the cathedral, Saqsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomacha)
Our guided city tour starts by collecting you from your Hotel. Then, we visit the Ruins near Cusco: Saqsaywaman is towards the northeast of Cusco. Its altitude is at 3,600 mts (11,800 ft). It is a bold demonstration of ancient construction skills. Made of massive stones weighing up to 17,000 kg (125 tons), this ruin was called The Fortress by the Spanish. It was more than simply a military structure. Some authors say the zigzagging shape of the walls represented the god of lightning, an important Inca deity.
Q'enqo is about 1km toward the east of Saqsaywaman. It was an Inca shrine (huaca) with a circular amphitheater and a stone block that is said to represent a puma. This ceremonial center was dedicated to the worship of mother earth (Pacha Mama).
Pucapucara is about 8.5 kms (5.3 miles) from Cusco at an altitude of 3,750 mts. (12,300 ft). It was originally thought to be a military checkpoint on a main road. It was also a collective lodge offering food and shelter for travelers, as well as for the retinue escorting the Inca in his retirement in Tambomachay.
Tambomachay is called the sacred bathing place for the Inca rulers “the Incas' Bath”, and was probably a centre of water worship. It is known that the Incas revered water as one of the principal elements of life .
We then visit Q'orycancha: (Sun Temple) Q'orycancha is a synthesis of Inca organization, architecture and religion. The walls are sedimentary or Imperial Inca and illustrate the expression of architecture in pre-Columbian America. It was the center of the religion dedicated to different gods and deities: the Rainbow, Thunder, Stars, the Moon and, of course, The Sun himself. The kidnapped idols of subdued tribes were kept hostage in the temple and if the tribe stepped out of line the idols were ridiculed and then destroyed.
We ended up visiting The Cathedral: Construction started in 1560 on the side of the Inca Viracocha's palace. It was finished in 1654 after 94 years of work. This is without any doubt, one of the most notable monuments in architecture, with the best expressions of woodcarving, silver beaten plate, gold leaf art and Cusco school paintings . We ended up leaving you in your Hotel.
End of the day.

The peasants from the surrounding communities descend from the mountains in order to perform their commercial transactions. The colorful clothing of peasants is very showy. Their native hats make them very easy to distinguish. At 11:00 a.m. there is a catholic mass in the church for the local populace in Incan language.
After the market visit, we will enjoy Lunch at a restaurant. We then have a demonstration of Inca beer preparation in an Andean bar (Ajahuasy).
Afterwards, we travel to Ollantaytambo Town which is about 68 kms. (47.2 miles) northwest of Cusco; its altitude is 2,700 mts. (8,856 ft). It was a Royal estate of the Inca Pachacuteq, which stands at a strategic spot, enclosed in hills that hide some of the most impressive ruins from Inca and Pre-Inca times. The town is one of the best surviving Inca settlements still inhabited, in blocks called Canchas, one Cancha housed several families.
