TOUR DESCRIPTION
DAY ONE:
Cusco – Quiswarani – Juchuyqasa Pass – Cuncani
Our imposing hiking tour of Lares starts by collecting you from your hotel at 6:00 A.M. Then a fascinating bus ride takes us to the departure point of Quiswarani. We start hiking up Queuña Qocha and will then enjoy a lunch break of approximately one and a half hours. Afterwards, we continue for another hour and a half to the Juchuyqasa pass. The views of the Sawasiray snow capped mountain are stunning and down below are spectacular lakes flanked by high hills. Two hours lower down lies our first camp site, the indigenous village of Cuncani, at 3700 meters (12,140) above sea level. We have afternoon tea once the camp is set up, with dinner around 7:00 P.M. Then to bed in preparation for an early start tomorrow.
DAY TWO:
Cuncani – Pumawanca Pass – Cuyo One – Cuyo Two
Our second day journey starts with an early Breakfast We then start our climb up to the Pumawanca pass, a four hour hike with incredible sceneries. A colorful lake stands out in the rocks and a paved stone path leads us to nearby Pumawanca snow capped mountain range. The views of the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s are incredible. Down below we will find a dark green polylepis forest and the Cuyo one lunch spot at one hour from the pass. In the afternoon there is a short hike of one hour to the campsite called Cuyo two, at 3500 meters (11,483) above sea level. We have afternoon tea once the camp is set up, with dinner around 7:00 P.M. Then to bed in preparation for an early start tomorrow.
DAY THREE
Cuyo Two – Cuyo Three – Paqchanta – Aguas Calientes
Our easier day starts by enjoying an early breakfast afterwards; we start our descent to Cuyo three, walking underneath polylepis trees, for one hour. After a two hour further down hike we reach Paqchanta indigenous village and Inca ruins. Another three hour during hike brings us to Urubamba where we catch the bus to Yanahuara. Our bus ride to Yanahuara takes approximately one hour. In Yanahuara we will have lunch. In the afternoon we take a train from Ollantaytambo train station to Aguas Calientes. We stay the night at a hotel in Aguas Calientes and have dinner at a restaurant.
DAY FOUR
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Sunrise & Tour – Cusco
Our day starts early in the morning by taking the first bus up to the site to visit the marvelous citadel of Machu Picchu and enjoy the sunrise. It is fascinating to watch the sunrise over the astronomical observatories and Incan Temples. This indeed used to be a very important natural phenomenon for farming, religion and festivities celebration. After sunrise, we start our guided tour, walking and visiting each section of the grand city of the Incas. The tour provides a personal meeting with the Inca legacy and its energy is connected step by step with each enclosure, temple, altar and nature. The city is incredible in any season. After the tour we will enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the village. In the afternoon we will return to Cusco by train and transfer you back to your Cusco hotel.
