TOUR DESCDRIPTION

DAY ONE

LIMA, CUSCO AND WALKING TOUR

Upon arrival we will meet you at the Lima airport. You will fly to Cusco on a morning flight. We meet you at the Cusco airport to pick you up and transfer you to your hotel. You will have a morning at leisure to acclimatize to the altitude.Today’s lunch and dinner are not included.

AFTERNOON WALKING TOUR
From 1:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
Triumph Street, Hatunrumiyuq, San Blas, the Temple of the sun and the Loreto Street

Our guided walking tour starts by collecting you from your hotel. We first visit the main square, the Plaza de Armas of Cusco which used to be very important in Incan times, surrounded by the imposing mansions, and still is the centre of Cusco. The altitude here is approximately 3400 meters above sea level (11000 ft).

We continue up Triumph Street via the old House of arms, dating from Incan times. This is no the Triumph Catholic Church. Hatunrumiyuq Street built in green igneous stone was the Inca Roca King’s palace. The famous twelve angled stone is the symbol of the grand Inca work and Empire.

We then continue up towards the San Blas neighborhood, one of the oldest artisan neighborhoods dating from colonial times. All the residents and shops show art work in different materials and styles from all different time periods. We continue down narrow original Incan streets flanked by Inca walls and the adobe brick remains of the conquest and republican time. Some of the balconies show incredible wood carvings from the 17th, 18th, and 19th century.

Some blocks ahead we will find the Temple of the Sun. Qoricancha is a synthesis of Inca organization, architecture and religion. The walls are made of sedimentary Inca stone work and illustrate the expression of architecture in pre-Columbian America. It was the center of the religion dedicated to different gods and deities: the Rainbow, Thunder, Stars, the Moon, and, of course, The Sun himself. The abducted idols of subdued tribes were kept hostage in the temple and if the tribe stepped out of line the idols were ridiculed and then destroyed.

We continue our tour to the two blocks further down situated Loreto Street, also called “Acllawasy”. Here we will visit the former “chosen women’s house” (Inca convent). All young girls from the novelty went there to learn all about the Inca culture, for example religion and female activities such as cooking, weaving, spinning, bringing up the children, preparing Chicha, and manufacturing ceramics. We finish our tour at the main square of Cusco

Overnight at the hotel.

DAY TWO

FULL DAY HIKE

We recommend this superb practice before any Inca trail hikes to acclimatize to walking in high altitude and to control your breathing and hiking speed. Box lunch on the way.

From 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
The Plaza de Armas, Sacsayhuaman, San Cristóbal, Q’enqo, the Moon Temple and the San Blas

Our enigmatical guided walk starts by collecting you from your Hotel . We start with the center of the city of Cusco; Plaza de Armas. Its altitude is 3,400 meters (11,000 ft). We then start walking up towards the monumental temple of Sacsayhuaman; it is approximately half an hour’s walk and is situated at 3 kilometers (2 miles) from the centre. It is situated 200 meters (656 ft) northeast above Cusco. Half way uphill we will find the church of San Cristobal and next to it the imposing remains of the Palace of Manco Capac, the first Inca. Continuing east from Sacsayhuaman lays Q’enqo. Its altitude is 3,600 m (11,600 ft) and it used to be the mother earth temple. There are carvings everywhere and under the sedimentary stone hill the most amazing Inca altar can be found.

Towards the northeast there is the Moon Temple. It is 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) from the ancient Incan road towards the antisuyo (into the Amazon direction). We then start descending to The San Blas neighborhood, an artisan neighborhood with its own chapel and Main Square. Dinner at a reastaurant. Overnight at hotel

DAY THREE

HIKE FROM 104 km TO MACHU PICCHU
From 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Cusco, Chachabamba km 104, Wiñaywayna, Sun gate and Machu Picchu

Our short Inca trail starts by collecting you from your hotel. We then have a private transfer to the train station. We take the first train available departing from either Poroy at 20 minutes from Cusco or Ollantaytambo in the sacred valley. It is a relaxing tour by train which allows you to enjoy panoramic views of the Valley surrounded by snow capped mountains, stunning landscapes and people dressed traditionally in the villages. We pass the town of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley via Pomatales magical canyon while the turbulent Urubamba River on your right leads you to incredible views of archaeological sites and nature. Way down the valley is Chachabamba kilometer 104, the starting point of our hike which is flanked by a big cloud forest. It is a hike across a steep mountainside and forested peaks to get to Wiñaywayna ruins where we have a pocketed lunch.

In the afternoon, the last stretch of the hike is on a granite paving stone path, under a dark green cloud forest to reach the enigmatical Sun Gate, entrance to the mystical heart of Machu Picchu. Here we will watch the sunset. Once the sun has set, we will take the bus to a hotel in Aguas Calientes town. We will enjoy dinner at a restaurant and stay the night at the hotel in the village.

DAY FOUR

MACHU PICCHU TOUR
From 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
The sunrise and the tour in Machu Picchu

We wake up early to take the first bus up to Machu Picchu to enjoy the sunrise from the Guardian House: it is the best look out post and viewpoint. The sun shines brightly over the astronomical observatories and temples. This is an incredible natural phenomenon of our father sun. After the sunrise, we start our Machu Picchu Tour.

The tour offers a personal meeting with the Inca legacy through a guided visit. It lasts approximately two hours and afterwards you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own or climb Waynapicchu.  Lunch at a restaurant.

We then take the bus to the village of Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon we will return to Cusco by train from where you will have a transfer from the train station your Cusco hotel.

DAY FIVE

The Pisac Market, Ollantaytambo ruins and the town

Our guided Sacred Valley tour starts by collecting you from your hotel. We then transfer you to Pisac in approximately 40 minutes in order to visit the Pisac Market. This market is a highly recommended artisan market, especially on market days and Sundays. The peasants from the surrounding communities descend from the mountains in order to perform their commercial transactions. The colorful clothing of peasants is very showy. Their native hats make them very easy to distinguish. At 11:00 A.M. there is a catholic mass in the church for the local populace in Incan language. After the market visit, we will enjoy Lunch at a restaurant. We then have a demonstration of Inca beer preparation in an Andean bar (Ajahuasy).

Afterwards, we travel to Ollantaytambo Town which is situated at 68 kilometers (47.2 miles) northwest of Cusco; its altitude is 2,700 meters (8,856 ft). This town used to be the Royal estate of the Inca Pachacuteq, which stands at a strategic spot, enclosed in hills that hide some of the most impressive ruins from Inca and Pre-Inca times. The town is one of the best surviving Inca settlements still inhabited, in blocks called Canchas, one Cancha housed several families. Moreover, we will have a fantastic ceramic demonstration in pre-Inca and Inca style.
