Our programs in Puno are especially designed for you to discover this centre of folklore; the beautiful highest navigable lake of Titicaca is one of Puno´s main tourist attractions. It is famous for its artificial floating islands made of reeds, and the inhabitants still practice pre-Inca and Inca traditions. The people from Puno perform different ethnical dances during big yearly returning festivities with dancers dressed traditionally. Moreover, according to the legend, Inca civilization started with the first Inca coming out of the lake. The lake and its islands are holy places for the Aymara people. Our different Puno programs make you connect with the past.

Tour Description

TOUR DESCRIPTION

DAY ONE

Our tour starts by collecting you from your hotel. We then take a motor-boat to visit the famous Uros Floating Islands, northwest of Puno on Lake Titicaca. The Uros Islands are a group of 40 floating islands which provide a glimpse of one of the regions oldest cultures. The islands are man-made, woven from Totora reeds and the dense roots that these plants develop support the island. The islanders live in huts made from the same materials and travel from island to island in boats also made from the reeds. The local inhabitants make their living by fishing and trapping birds. They also make weavings, collages and musical instruments to sell to the visiting tourists. We have lunch on one of the floating islands.

Afterwards, we continue to Amantani which is at an altitude of 3950 meters (13050 ft). We will reach the island after a 3 and a half hour boat ride. Its mayor attraction is the Pachatata and Pachamama temples; they were built to honor the earth. Moreover, there are amazing views of the sacred lake; on the east, the eastern range and the royal range were and still are superior Quechua and Aymara spiritual gods. When the sun is coming down the colorful views are incredible, it makes you feel to be part of a grand natural phenomenon on the highest navigable lake.

We will have dinner and spent a night at the house of a local family.

DAY TWO

Amantani, Taquile, Puno

We have breakfast and then travel on to the island of Taquile. The island is located 35km west of Puno and surrounded by the vast ocean-like waters of Lake Titicaca. Taquile is inhabited by proud, Quechua-speaking natives who still wear traditional dress and have successfully maintained the lifestyle of their ancestors. There is a very strong sense of community on the island. Lunch is not included in Taquile.

From here we return to Puno. Our services end by leaving you at your hotel.
