YOUR HEALTH
ALTITUDE SICKNESS (SOROCHE)
Altitude sickness occurs at high altitude where lower levels of oxygen affect most people to some extent. Symptoms can represent themselves as slight dizziness, a headache and sometimes nausea. You can assist yourself by being prepared when you arrive at high altitude (Cusco and Puno are two of our tour sites that are at 3400 meters and 4000 meters of altitude respectively). For the first day of your arrival we recommend the following precautions:
Drink plenty of liquids (mountain air is dry and cold and makes you lose moisture while breathing).
Don’t consume alcohol as this may increase dehydration.
Eat small, light meals on your first day.
Drink mate de coca (local tea made from coca leaves; it has many therapeutic qualities)
Take it easy; don’t over-exert yourself on the first day.
VACCINATIONS
